Preparedness begins with understanding

We live in a world where people, technology and the functions of society depend on one another. As long as everyday life works, these connections are rarely something we need to think about.

When circumstances change, they become visible.

What worked yesterday may not work tomorrow. Plans may need rethinking. Information may be missing. New decisions sometimes have to be made before we have the full picture.

I believe in the value of preparing. But I also believe that no one can foresee everything that will happen.

That is why preparedness begins with understanding.

Understanding what needs to work. Seeing which dependencies exist. Discovering possible ways forward and recognising when they need rethinking.

KrisKompass exists to help people find their bearings when circumstances change.

I help people ask better questions, see their options and decide for themselves which way to go.

Because I believe in people’s ability to understand, reason and make their own decisions – even when reality is uncertain.

Stay on course when others lose their way.

Behind KrisKompass

KrisKompass was founded and is run by Tim Walsh.

He has a background as a professional officer, with more than 25 years of experience in leadership, training and decision-making, including international operations in Afghanistan.

Much of his working life has involved understanding complex situations, assessing information that is rarely complete and making decisions as circumstances change. Just as important has been training others to make these assessments themselves.

These experiences have shaped KrisKompass.

The ability to make well-founded decisions belongs to everyone. People exercise it every day, in their homes, at work and in their organisations. But when the conditions of everyday life change, they sometimes need to ask different questions from the ones they are used to.

KrisKompass grew out of the conviction that preparedness is first and foremost about understanding enough to find a way forward.
